As the saying goes, there's a sucker born every minute. As long as some people continue to lack critical thinking skills, and as long as there are charlatans or sadly deluded alt med advocates, alt med will continue to hurt people directly or indirectly.

What you should do is try to warn people about the dangers of listening to miseducated "healers" or take unproven, untested alt med treatments. Even if you can convince or plant a seed of doubt and skepticism in just one person, you've done a great thing.

Medical science will continue to advance and has never been held back by alt med. On that you never have to worry.
References :
As long as we live in a society with free will, people will exercise their rights to refuse to do things like vaccinations and tools like the internet will exist as discussion forums to highlight that not everything the manufacturers of of products will tell you is can be taken as gospel.
Do you want us to live in a totalitarian nanny state where all the descisions are taken away from us? I don't
Currently if you want to have the full complement of western medicine you can. Also if you want to go Alternative you can.
That's called a free market where you can exercise your free will.

Medical science is an oxymoron. Science fortifies the art of medicine. If medicine was a science it would be impossible for X number of doctors to see the same patient and have X or Y different opinions because the science would be watertight. Tests in labs are subject to interpretation.

What you are trying to do is far more harmful to the advancement of our species than refuseniks who won't tow the party line because what you are advocating is a form or totalitarianism. In these regimes exactly how successful have the governments been at advancing the species?

Edit:
Something I should mention is more people are killed in the western world by conventional medicine than all the other systems of medicine put together.
Look at the plank in your own eye before comenting on the splinter in your brothers.
References :
NZ registered Osteopath

You really got confused Mutt !
Certainly you meant the dangers of western Medicine, didn't you?

All the surgical equipment left inside the patients after the end of operation, all the radiation burns from the radiotherapy, the terrible malady caused be chemo and the most important - thousands of people dieing as straight consequence to the use of Pharmaceutical Drugs?

Yes, I do agree, it is horrible. Something must be done about it fast. Lets made the whole Western Medicine unlawful. Sounds like your idea? Good!

Well I actually believe that many as you say Western Medicine actually Kills people. There are many cases of people going on medication and then getting more ill and having to take more unnecessary medication, to counter the side effects of the previous one.

The medical profession is just a business like any other, they strive on people getting ill so they can sell their meds...If everyone was healthy they would lose out! they don't want healthy people, or people to take the initiative in their own health- that's why they feel threatened by alternative health practitioners.

Herbal/natural Medicine has existed for centuries, long before conventional medicine and it is still widely used in many countries today.
Obviously it helps many people, otherwise there would not be such a demand.
People are now waking up and taking more responsibility for their own health, conventional medicine does not advocate this!

Illnesses don't just occur by magic, they come from years of toxic over load, to then put more dangerous toxins into the body does not make sense, it makes more sense to use natural cures and that in turn empowers an Individual.
References :
You're lumping everyone that uses alternative medicine into one group, that's unfair. Many, like myself, supplement modern medicine w/alternative therapies. I keep up my vaccinations, and visit my doc for serious stuff that they can treat(i don't go for a cold..i can't tell you the number of times my doc's told me they can't treat a cold virus, that it just has to run its course).I do have high blood pressure, and PCOS,which I wouldn't *dream* of treating w/alternative medication. If i've got aches and pains that I know are related to my doctor diagnosed arthritis,i do treat w/herbal soaks. But if I know I'm truly sick,or it's due to one of my outstanding medical conditions,I go to a doc. and I *always* consult my doctor before taking anything, herbs or OTC,before taking it.

Besides,do you know there are alot of previously 'alternative medications' that are now common in modern medicine?Willow Bark was chewed by Native Americans for hundreds of thousands of years before it was discovered by 'modern' Europeans. It's now called Aspirin. Scientests have consulted medicine men in the Amazonian Rainforest for their abilities w/rainforest plants, many now used in *modern* medicine. Bee stings have saved thousands of ppl from a life in a wheelchair. Cannibis helps ppl w/anorexia,AIDS,and Cancer. So be kind to 'alternative' medicine, you may see it in some other form in a doctor's office near you.
References :
Dear Dr. Watson:you're dead wrong with this. If there wasn't alternative medicine such as chiropractice, I'd be in a wheelchair today. In addition, one who sees that natural remedies don't work should use one's common sense and get an appointment with one's doctor. As it happens, I strongly believe in natural medicine, but if I get an upper respiratory infection, I go to my doctor--who happens to be an integrative primary physician, taking the best from the east and the west--so it's not the alternative medicine that kills those people, it is lack of using common sense.....
References :
Darwin's theory in practice I'm afraid. Idiots refuse real medical care. Idiots die.

Although it does cheese me off for two reasons: firstly, idiots who subject their kids to that crap, like the guy who's diabetic daughter died because instead of getting her to Emergency, he prayed instead. Secondly, when people get worse from having tried dumb-ass 'medicines' and end up taking up hospital space from people who aren't morons.
References :
It's easier to look at what they have in common that is, They all attempt to treat the illness rather than the symptoms (or the cause rather than the effect).
This is the exact opposite approach to that taken by conventional 'main stream' medicine (allopathic) which seeks to 'treat' an ailment rather than cure it.
The reason is simple. Vast amounts of money can be made (by big pharma) by providing treatments that keep the problem intact (ie not killing the goose that lays the golden egg, or at least, not until as much money as possible has been extracted from their medical insurance).
In the USA, the AMA (assisted by the FDA) seek to outlaw most of the practices in question due to the relatively high cure rate compared to allopathic treatment. Cures obviously affect the profit margins of a system that puts economic wealth before individuals health.
Have a nice day!
References :
integrative=integrating modalities of Conventional Medicine and Natural Medicine eg:we have quite a few M.Ds who practice Integrative Medicine here in Sydney.

Alternative=any alternative/other option to Conventional Medicine.

Complementary=usually means using a from of Alternative Medicine to complement Conventional medicine /pharmaceutical treatment eg:herbs being given in conjunction with Chemotherapy to reduce negative effects.

Holistic=umm,i guess this term varies from person to person.it could either mean taking an approach of/looking at both physical symptoms plus any lifestyle causes that could be contributing to them eg:too much anger or stress, emotional eating etc.
or to another person/practitioner it could mean approach of interelation of "body, mind, spirit" and personal views would depend on the person faith belief eg:newage, christian, muslims etc.

Homeopathic=diluting substances,water,shaking,tiny doses,like cures like ecetera.

Naturopathic+here down under pretty much equals herbs, herbalist. Most Naturopaths here are dealing with herbs & if a person mentiosn going to naturopath its pretty well understand that the person is referring to herbal medicine although the term Naturopathic could be different in different countries-im not aware re: internationally sorry.

Chinese Medicine=the diagnostic and herbal aspect is quite sophisticated although on surface it might not appear to be to some.its actually very indepth and when you can get the knowledge on what the terms= in "western medicine" language you become aware of how advanced and sophisticated it actually is considering the age/origins & not having diagnostic equipment.
Chinese MEdicine uses alot of terms like Spleen Qi deficiency,Lung Deficiency etc & some practitioners are very good at diagnosing off these terms. At the same time, its even better to better aware of what the terms correspond to in "western medicine" For example Spleen Qi has little to do with the spleen as we know it but actually means weak digestion and poor nutrient absorbtion.

Acupuncture=needles.
